Ms Whitehead had the great pleasure of taking four lovely Year 7 students to the Salter’s Chemistry Camp which was held at the University of Kent.
Josh, Rose, Olivier and Charlotte completed 2 challenges which required them to work as a team, follow the instructions they were given and to keep going even when the work was difficult.
There were nine other schools taking part in the challenges, with a Salter’s Challenge in the morning (set by the Salter’s Institute) and a University Challenge in the afternoon. I am very pleased to say that St. Simon Stock’s team came third in the Salter’s Challenge.
The students were brilliant ambassadors for the school and deserve massive congratulations for their achievement.
Salters chemistry camp was a really fun day activity because we got to do different experiments and we had a fun engaging liquid nitrogen science show. The first experiment was my favourite because it was like an investigation. We had to decode names and use chromatography to find out the criminal and we also had to mix white powders with acids and study them. All together I would like to go again.

Thank you for the opportunity to go to Salters Chemistry Camp. I enjoyed working with the team (Charlotte, Josh and Oliwier) and I think it was a brilliant day. My favourite part of the day was in the first experiment when we had to do the chromatography. I found it interesting about what colours made up the tested colour. I also liked the second experiment when we discovered which colour was denser. I was very happy when we came third. Thank you for the trip,
