Art & Design Curriculum Intent Statement
Our intent is for the curriculum to promote a curiosity and love for the subject, and develop student’s ability to be independent learners and thinkers. Learning is developed through the journey and understanding of our four main core principles; Research, explore, record and present.
Art & Design Vision
Art makes the world accessible. As teaches we are nurturing our students understanding of this. From inclusion and diversity to exploring and celebrating similarities and differences between peoples, places and cultures. Students learn transferable skills, they develop critical, creative, and analytical thinking skills to include problem solving and risk taking. Our aim is for students to develop their visual literacy and communication skills and personal expression in both the material and virtual worlds. Building confidence and self-esteem, promoting excitement and engagement. Ultimately accessing pathways through education to employability in the creative, cultural, digital media and heritage industries.
Art & Design Purpose
Art craft and design education provides and inspires personal expression, cultural understanding, creative and practical responses, promoting imaginative risk taking to provide solutions to our material, emotional, social and virtual worlds. A world class art craft and design education will engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to participate in, experiment with, invent and create their own works of art craft and design. Pupils should be able to think creatively and critically. They should investigate and evaluate a wide range of creative outcomes, from the past and present to develop vigorous understanding of the many disciplines within art craft and design and how they shape our history and future. This will enable pupils to contribute as confident citizens and future professionals to the culture, creativity, economic success, leisure, material and emotional well being of our society within both national and global context.
