Our Chaplaincy

Miss S Joyce is the schools Chaplain and helps to run the day-to-day life of the chaplaincy and the prayer life of the school. She is supported by Deacon Ian, and Our Sixth is supported by Angela Black. The school is also supported by the clergy from the Parishes in the Maidstone Deanery. Our Chaplaincy works with students and staff across the school, walking alongside all members of our community.

Through Chaplaincy here, at St Simon Stock Catholic School, we hope to feel Christ’s Grace through what is Good, what is Beautiful and what is True.

Alongside lessons, exams, and daily routines, we know there is another rhythm at work: one that invites each young person to reflect on who they are, what matters, and what gives life meaning and purpose. Chaplaincy exists to create that space.

Rooted in the Catholic tradition, we are guided by the values of Goodness, Beauty, and Truth. We believe these are more than ideas, but experiences — encountered through stillness, story, creativity, and community. We welcome all students, of all faiths and none, into this shared exploration.

We recognise that young people are searching; for identity, belonging, and purpose. Chaplaincy does not seek to provide answers, but to offer meaningful experiences, thoughtful questions, and moments of reflection that help students begin to discover these things for themselves.

The Rhythm of Chaplaincy

Our work is shaped by the liturgical year of the Church, alongside the natural seasons. These rhythms help students engage with key moments of reflection and celebration throughout the year.

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 take part in regular “GRACE time” sessions. These are small, retreat-style experiences held in the Chapel, offering time away from the usual pace of school.

Each session includes:

  • A theme linked to the liturgical season in support of the RE curriculum
  • Scripture and reflection
  • Stories drawn from saints, myth, and wider wisdom traditions
  • A reflective activity

Through story, students are invited to engage deeply. These experiences often resonate in ways that are hard to measure, but important to notice.

A Space for Everyone

The Chapel is open to all students and staff. Break and lunchtimes are full of community, with Chess-negotiating, guitar-playing and marble run-building to be found.

Whether someone comes with a strong faith, many questions, or simply a need for stillness, they are welcome.

In a world that can feel fast and demanding, chaplaincy offers something different: a chance to pause and to encounter what is good, what is beautiful, and what is true.

I had attempted to walk the earth with a barefoot heart and a barefoot brain, how could I not have seen that all ground is holy ground.
