Mathematics Curriculum Intent Statement
In Mathematics, the aim for the curriculum is to ensure that all learners develop their mathematical fluency, are able to reason using this fluency, and that their core knowledge can be applied to solving a wide variety of practical problems.
Mathematics Vision
Our philosophy is to understand the place of mathematics in people's lives. It enables students to become better at thinking logically and analytically. Through solving problems, students develop resilience and are able to think creatively and strategically. We would endeavour for our students to be stimulated and challenged to empower them to be curious and take risks in their studies.
Mathematics Purpose
Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering (STEM), and necessary for developing their use of formal mathematical knowledge to interpret and solve problems, including financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
