Personal Development and Wellbeing Curriculum Intent Statement

LOVE

Through the education of PDW, we seek to show students that they are created and loved by God and that they have an ability to respond to that love by loving others as well. This is expressed through the programme “Life to the Full”, where students are reminded that they are created and loved by God. Through a study of the Catholic position on Relationships and Sexual Education, we aim to show students that the Church’s teachings on relationships are an expression of God’s love for humanity.

LIVE

We seek to help students understand themselves and how they fit into society and into God’s plan. We seek to help students to live life to the full and to engage with the world responsibly and safely teaching them about relationships and sexual education as well as physical, social, health and economic education in line with the Diocesan guidelines and the Government guidelines. We seek to show students that the Church’s position on PDW is based on John’s Gospel: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

LEARN

We seek to help students to learn the laws of the land that affect them in their day-to-day life, and to be able to respond to the issues that arise in society. We also seek to give students opportunities to watch the news from Catholic and secular perspectives, to consider changes in society, to reflect on religions art, and the beauty of the world and to consider the lives of the Saints and national days of observation in order to have a broad and balanced understanding of the world.

LEAD

We seek to ensure that students are given the correct support and wider education necessary to become a functioning member of society, including their Personal, Social, Health education as well as an understanding of their place and role in society. Through the provision of the Catholic Youth Ministry’s Faith in Action Programme, we encourage students to become servant leaders, to show their faith through service and improve the world around them.
