A Level Philosophy Trip to Cambridge University

Earlier this term, Mr Capone accompanied a group of 14 Year 12 students to a thought- provoking conference at Cambridge University, providing a unique opportunity to engage with leading academics and explore key topics in philosophy, theology, and ethics.

The students attended lectures by distinguished speakers, including:

  • Professor Liam Gearon, who explored the power of religious experience.
  • Professor James Orr, who discussed the rationality of God’s existence, challenging students to think critically about arguments for faith.
  • Professor Daphne Hampson, who examined feminism in the Bible, offering fresh perspectives on gender and interpretation.

In addition to attending these sessions, Mr Capone took part alongside Julie Arliss in a debate on consent, during which students were encouraged to contribute their own ideas and engage directly with the audience.

The trip provided an invaluable chance for students to broaden their understanding, develop critical thinking skills, and participate in discussions that linked their classroom learning to real-world philosophical and ethical debates. It was a fantastic experience that inspired thoughtful reflection and debate among all who attended.
