Moving Towards a Greener Future
Decarbonisation at St Simon Stock
As we reach the end of another academic year, it's a moment to pause, not only to celebrate the achievements of our students and staff, but to recognise the quiet but significant progress we’ve made as a school community in becoming more environmentally responsible.
Over the last 12-18 months, St Simon Stock Catholic School has been moving purposefully forward on its journey to reduce our carbon footprint and operate more sustainably. These are not just operational upgrades; they reflect our deeper commitment to stewardship of the world we live in, rooted in our Carmelite values and Catholic ethos of care for creation.
Last summer, we took a major step by upgrading our central heating system. Our new air-source heating system is not only far more energy-efficient, but also significantly reduces the carbon emissions we produce as a school. Alongside this, we installed solar panels on the roof of D Block, home to our Art, Biology and Science classrooms. These panels now help power some of our most vibrant learning spaces with clean, renewable energy.
Looking head
We know that sustainability isn't a one-time initiative, it’s a long-term mindset. That’s why we are already looking ahead. As part of our next phase of becoming a greener, more eco-conscious school, we are hoping to increase the number of waste, paper, and recycling bins around the school site. Our goal is to make it easier for everyone, students, staff, and visitors, to make sustainable choices part of their daily school life.
Could you help?
But we can’t do it alone. We warmly invite any parents, carers, alumni or members of our wider community with expertise, resources or industry connections that could help us source recycling infrastructure to get in touch. Whether you work in environmental services, facilities management, or simply want to support this mission, your contribution could make a lasting difference to our school and the planet.
Together, we can build a future where sustainability is second nature. Thank you for your continued support as we take the next step in our journey toward a greener tomorrow.
