STEM Workshop by Overbury
On Tuesday 24 March, a select group of Year 8 students took part in an engaging and interactive STEM workshop delivered by Overbury, introducing them to the wide range of careers available within the construction industry.
The opportunity came about thanks to a parent connected with Overbury who kindly reached out to our Careers Leader, Mrs Boulton, to support students through this exceptionally well-organised session. The visiting team represented a variety of roles within the sector, including an architect, design manager, social value manager, project manager, an apprentice and a volunteer, each sharing valuable insight into their career pathways and day-to-day responsibilities.
Students took part in a series of icebreaker activities before learning more about how construction projects are planned and delivered. They then worked collaboratively on a practical engineering challenge: designing and building a structure capable of supporting the weight of a heavy bottle while also being strong enough to withstand an “earthquake” test. The activity encouraged teamwork, creativity and problem-solving, while demonstrating the real-world skills used across the industry.
We are very grateful to the Overbury team for delivering such an inspiring workshop, and especially thankful to parents who continue to connect with Mrs Boulton to help provide meaningful careers experiences and insights for our students.
