Year 7's to Herstmonceux Observatory Science Centre

On Thursday, 13 March, our Year 7 students embarked on an unforgettable journey to the Herstmonceux Observatory Science Centre. Divided into 12 groups, they spent the entire day immersed in hands-on activities, experiments, and games that reinforced the topics covered in school.

The day included exciting challenges: each group was tasked with building a wooden bridge sturdy enough to walk over. This activity not only tested their engineering skills but also fostered teamwork and problem-solving abilities. Following the bridge-building challenge, the students took on another fun game where they had to construct a tower taller than the tallest person in their group, further encouraging creativity and collaboration.

The students explored the large science adventure play park area, where they had a blast climbing the DNA Climbing Frame and engaging with various interactive exhibits designed to spark their curiosity and creativity.

One of the highlights of the trip was the series of experiments. They learned how to make fireworks, gaining insights into chemical reactions and safety protocols. Additionally, they explored the fascinating world of thermal imaging, understanding how heat signatures can be used in various applications.

Throughout the day, the students were actively engaged, learning through play and experimentation. This trip was a fantastic opportunity for them to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios, making science both fun and educational.

Accompanying this article are five write-ups from students who attended the trip, sharing their personal experiences and reflections. Their stories highlight the excitement and learning that took place, showcasing the value of such educational excursions.

We are proud of our Year 7 students for their enthusiasm and participation in this enriching experience. Here's to many more adventures that inspire and educate!
