John Downton Awards 2019 – Winner (Toby Lonergan)
The Art department is thrilled to announce that 3 of our students were shortlisted for the prestigious John Downton awards 2019. Mollie Marie Clegg (year 11). Shannon Willoughby (year 13) and Toby Lonergan (year 13). The John Downton Award for Young Artists is an annual exhibition which encourages and celebrates the creativity of Kent’s young artists. It is open to students aged 11 to 18 from schools and colleges across Kent.
An exhibition of shortlisted work is currently being shown at County Hall in Maidstone until Wednesday 8 January 2020.
I and Mrs Dafforn attended the awards evening on Tuesday 19th November. There were over 600 entries and we are delighted to announce that Toby Lonergan’s piece won an award for ‘Best Mixed Media piece’. Toby’s work will now be exhibited in the Turner Contemporary in Margate from18th January 2020 to Sunday 8th March 2020, along with the other winners. This is such a fantastic and massive achievement and we are over the moon.
