ST SIMON STOCK SIXTH FORM SUCCESS!

A Level Press Release: August 2017

We are pleased to announce yet another impressive year of A Level results at St Simon Stock Catholic School with a pass rate of 97%. An average of one in five entries achieved grades A* to A with nearly half achieving grades A* to B. Two out of every three students achieved three A Levels with nine out of ten gaining two or more A Levels. The average grade for vocational courses was a Distinction Plus.

Early indicators show that our students have once again made outstanding progress from their 2015 GCSE starting-points, bettering even the exceptional achievements of last year’s cohort. These indicators suggest that our overall value added score will be well above the national average for both Academic and Vocational A Levels.

Of particular note are the achievements of Aaron Clarke, Holly Dowd, Alex Delvalle, Tom Grogan, James Kemp, Nathan Tuckwell, Bethany Darcey, Jonathan Hart, Ella Hibbs-Newman, Arthur King, Lewis Playfoot and Chloe Noyelle, all of whom scored two A grades and a B grade, or better.

Arthur King achieved A* grades in RE and History as well as A grades in Psychology and AS English Literature, and he now goes on to study History at Warwick University. Alex Delvalle achieved A* grades in Economics and Biology as well as A grades in Geography and AS Business Studies. Alex will study Economics at the London School of Economics. Bethany Darcey achieved an A* grade in Film Studies, an A grade in Theatre Studies and a B grade in English and now goes on to study Performance Arts at RCSSD. Lewis Playfoot achieved a Distinction Star in ICT as well as an A grade in A Level Mathematics and a B grade in Applied IT and now goes on to study Computing and Information Technology at the University of Surrey.

Ben Williams, Director of 6th Form, commented:

‘We are so pleased with these results, achieved after two years of hard work by our students. In most instances, these results were achieved in new, more demanding courses which increased the pressures on the students during their two years of study. Well done to all.’

Brendan Wall, Principal, commented:

‘I am delighted at these set of results for our young people who have worked extremely hard and achieved at the highest level. Many of them will proceed now to the universities, apprenticeships and jobs of their choice. We wish them every success for the future.
