STEM in the Kitchen

Over 50 year 8 students took part in a cooking contest that took place in the main hall. Within this contest, there were four chefs: Me (Jake), Noah, Katy and Lilly and we were put into pairs. Not only that, but there was also a red and a green team.

Katy and I were paired together and put onto the green team; whilst Noah and Lilly were put onto the red team. On the green team, we were cooking Mexican Bean Burrito with a tomato and cucumber salsa and on the red team they were cooking Thai Green Curry with Aromatic rice. Each team had exactly fifteen minutes to cook their meals.

After fifteen minutes, both of the meals were cooked and ready to go. They were being judged by the students who were sitting and watching us make the meals. After many of the students had come up to try both of the meals, the scores were in and ready to be counted up. And the winner was the green team. Red team member Noah thoroughly enjoyed finishing off all the left overs from his Thai Green Curry!

The competition was organised by our new catering company Chartwells with Chef James and Chef Dave running the event. Chef James said “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at your very impressive school. The students were so polite and very well mannered. It was a pleasure to host. I hope all the students had fun and enjoyed the session.”
