Eco-Club secures prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag
Wed 19 Oct 2022We are delighted to announce that St Simon Stock has been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag with Merit. This wonderful achievement for our school community reflects the amazing work achieved by our Eco-Committee over the last academic year.
The enthusiastic team of eager and committed volunteers worked tirelessly to complete an Environmental Review, create an Action Plan and embed environmental issues into a variety of curriculum areas, as well as run school-wide activities and initiatives to raise awareness and improve the school's existing environmental policy.
The congratulatory letter received with the award commented; "It was wonderful to see how completing your Environmental Review helped to raise the level of awareness in your school and helped your Eco-Committee to identify the issues and spot gaps in your school's existing environmental activity. But equally important is that it helped you to recognise the great work that you were already doing."
The letter went to give particular praise to the litter picks, beach clean and our wonderful new Eco-Garden stating that, "You’ve clearly embedded the ethos of the Eco-Schools programme far and wide in your school."
Finally, the letter commended the Eco-Committee team for their fabulous efforts; "I hope you and your Eco-Committee take great pride in your achievements, when listed it's almost astonishing how many there are... Everyone involved should be incredibly proud of the changes they have made."
Our Eco Club runs every Friday lunchtime with Mrs Lamberth, all are welcome to get involved.

Hospice Donations
Tue 18 Oct 2022St Simon Stock received an email from Heart of Kent Hospice informing us that our grand fundraising total has now reached £25,808.90. This is a phenomenal amount.
To put our amazing fundraising into perspective this total fundraising could pay for:
- 445 one-to-one sessions with a trained Hospice counsellor, supporting many families through the loss of a loved one.
- 1433 weeks' worth of cuppas for patient visitors to enjoy whilst spending as much time as they can with their loved one in a home-from-home environment.
- 2150 days of nutritious, freshly-made meals for patients staying on our Inpatient unit to maintain their health and wellbeing.
- Could pay for 49 days' worth of patient care on our Inpatient Unit, helping them to manage their symptoms or pain before returning home or, for those who choose, allowing them to die with dignity within the comfort and security of the Hospice.
HoKH are privileged to support over 50,000 local people since they opened their doors in 1991. With the generosity of people it helps them to make a difference to someone’s life at the end of their life which is a truly wonderful gift to give.

Arriva Strikes
Tue 11 Oct 2022We are extremely disappointed for all our customers to confirm that Unite have planned a further 13 days of industrial action in October and November across Northfleet, Gillingham, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells. The dates are:
Wednesday 19th, Thursday 20th and Friday 21st October
Monday 24th, Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th, Thursday 27th and Friday 28th October.
Monday 7th, Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th and Friday 11th November.
We recognise that this will mean upheaval to our customers and communities through this ongoing industrial action in the region, despite a generous pay offer being tabled.
We urge the Union to ballot on our pay offer as soon as possible. We will continue to keep our customers and stakeholders updated, we apologise for the inconvenience this will cause across the region.
Updates will be posted on our social media channels and, the link below. Any services that may run on those dates, will also be updated on this link.

E-safety
Fri 07 Oct 2022Recently our Year 7 students have been learning about E-safety by creating a website. Ten were picked and used to create an E-safety display in the Computing corridor.
By ensuring our students have the right e-safety knowledge, they can better understand the dangers that face them when using digital devices and sharing personal information. As well as how to recognise unethical behaviours or prevent cyberbullying.
