Elmer’s Big Art Parade, Maidstone!
Fri 16 Jul 2021The Elmer Parade celebrates 30 years of the
Heart of Kent Hospice.
Like all art, the Elmers are supposed to be thought-provoking and reflect beliefs.
The St Simon Stock Catholic School Elmer is installed in the Royal Star Arcade in Maidstone. If you get a chance to visit it, please do so.
Our Elmer is painted in different styles to reflect the international backgrounds of the students and staff at our school.

International Qualification!
Mon 12 Jul 2021A truly International Qualification
fit for the 21st Century
IB students came into school on Tuesday 5th July to collect their exam results. Director of Sixth Form Mrs Bartlett, and some of the group celebrate the results.
Twenty-two of the twenty-six International Baccalaureate Career Pathway Students (IBCP) collected their results on Tuesday 6th July. This was our school’s first cohort to study the International qualification, which they began in September 2019.
The course involves studying the IB core made up of language development (our students studied Turkish), Personal and Professional skills, a Reflective Project (where students write an essay with a moral or ethical dimension) and Service learning. Students study two IB Diploma subjects and one BTEC subject. These subjects and the Reflective Project attract UCAS points which enable students to gain a place at university.
We have noticed a positive change in our students studying the IBCP. Not only does it develop their knowledge and skills in the subjects they are studying, but also their confidence, teamwork and soft skills relevant to higher education or employment. Our students responded positively to the demands of the course and should be proud of their achievements.
Students will not find out in August after they receive their BTEC results, whether or not they have secured their first-choice university place.

Poetry Competition
Fri 09 Jul 2021During the school closure, the House Leaders ran a Poetry Competition. The competition was over two rounds. In the First Round the students had a choice of genres that they could write a poem about in any style they chose. The genres were – “Daily Life, What I see, Window to the World, Who do I say, I see me, Masks, Everyday life and Empty school”. There was an abundance of excellent entries which made it a very difficult task deciding on the finalists. In the end there were three finalists for each Key Stage. In the second round I decided to make the genre “Unlocked”, as we were able to be together in school again and see our friends. Deciding a winner for each Key Stage took me a while as the standard of the poems was incredible. The creativity that the students showed is to be commended. In the end Sara R (Year 7) and Joseph P (Year 11) were the winners and were presented with their prizes of an Kindle device by Mrs Hobbs. Congratulations to all of the students who took time to enter the competition, it has been an eye-opener appreciating the many talented students we have here at Stocky.
