  • ‘Young Minds’

    Fri 29 Nov 2019

Last term, our students got on board with the campaign run by mental health charity ‘Young Minds’, which drew attention to the mental health issues being suffered by young people. The week of the campaign corresponded with World Mental Health Awareness Day and World Homelessness Day. Money raised by the students from donations will be shared with both local homeless charity ‘POrchlight’ and the ‘Young Minds’ organisation.

As well as that week’s citizenship activities across the whole school focusing on discussions of this worthy subject, students also got the chance to raise awareness for the campaign by wearing an item of yellow clothing along with their school uniform. It was wonderful to see so many students getting involved and the bright flashes of yellow around the school that day were a reminder of the importance of addressing the mental health of our community.

    We raised a fantastic £252.26!!

I and Mrs Dafforn attended the awards evening on Tuesday 19th November. There were over 600 entries and we are delighted to announce that Toby Lonergan’s piece won an award for ‘Best Mixed Media piece’. Toby’s work will now be exhibited in the Turner Contemporary in Margate from18th January 2020 to Sunday 8th March 2020, along with the other winners. • Geography is Going Places

    Fri 22 Nov 2019

One Hundred and nine GCSE Geography students took part in a field trip to Hythe and Dymchurch on Friday 8th November. Fortunately, we were blessed with beautiful sunny weather.

Students measured the effects of longshore drift along the coast between Dymchurch and Hythe. In Hythe, we looked at what the high street has to offer locals and visitors, which included carrying out a questionnaire and environmental survey. This was to prepare students for Paper 3 of the GCSE Geography exam, which they will sit next summer.  As usual, Stocky students rose to the occasion with exemplary behaviour and a positive attitude. There was even time for fish and chips.

  • Stained Glass Art

    Thu 14 Nov 2019
The research and first ideas for the stained glass in the new Chapel are nearing completion and will be ready to go up before Christmas. The students’ work is on paper and they have used paint and inks to make images of natural and manmade objects. Later, the ideas will then be refined and images will be made using Perspex and coloured glass paints. For the moment, year 10 Art students are seeing their individual work emerge as a large scale group piece.
  • IB Services

    Wed 06 Nov 2019

On Tuesday 29th October, Mrs Bartlett, with the help of Ross Wimble and Anna Broad, explained the IBCP course to prospective parents and students. A key element of the IBCP Core is Service Learning, this involves students finding an authentic need in the community and dedicating 50 hours over the next two years to meeting this need.

Our current year 12 students are having their first interviews to establish which ‘community need’ they plan to support and how they are going to achieve this. It is hoped that students will use the school’s already strong links with organisations, such as Heart of Kent Hospice to achieve their goals.
