Jesse Tree Carol Service
Thu 25 Jan 2018Jesse Tree Carol Service
On Monday 18th December, St Simon Stock students in years 7, 8, 12 and 13 took part in the RE department’s Jesse Tree production for the Carol Service. The students led the congregation on a journey through the Old and New Testaments explaining the true meaning of Christmas.
This was followed by performances in both Drama and Music. Students in Year 7 performed a scene from the Grinch, and students from Year 7 – 13 contributed to vocal and instrumental pieces. The students really enjoyed the evening, performing on the stage and are already planning their next performance!

Festive Fundraising
Thu 25 Jan 2018A lot was happening in the last week of Term 2 including events, fundraising and spreading the Christmas cheer! As a school, we have two main charities which staff and students fund-raise for throughout the year – Heart of Kent Hospice & the Sacred Heart School. But there are other charities which we strive to support including the Can Appeal for the homeless and stamp collection for the Kent Association for the Blind.
As you may have spotted, we had a very festive picture on our home page. A massive thank you to colleagues, students and staff from St Simon Stock School who helped raise just under £5000!
On Saturday the 9th of Dec four students, staff and colleagues volunteered to help at the Heart of Kent Hospice Christmas fayre. It was part of our Advent fundraising, which is not just about raising funds but is a way to promote one of our house charities and also an ethos of service (putting others before oneself). The community and events manager at the HOKH was delighted that the Christmas fayre raised just under £5000 and attracted over 400 people.
Every year the HOKH care for over 1300 patients with a terminal illness and their families living in Maidstone, Aylesford, Tonbridge, Malling and surrounding areas. 91 pence in every £1 donated is spent on patient care. For more information on the charity, please click here.
Kent Association for the Blind
A huge thank you to everyone who sent in their used stamps from Christmas. Please keep sending them in for the Kent Association for the blind (K A B). Every charity I know is finding it difficult to generate funds, so used stamps are an easy way for St Simon Stock School to be able to help this charity which supports visually impaired people to live independent lives. Thank you again for taking the time to help raise much needed funds. Last year just under £2000 was raised around Kent from used stamps alone. There is a box at reception for any further donations.

Year 13 Geography Field Trip
Fri 19 Jan 2018Year 13 Geography students visited Reculver on the North Kent coast on 10th January. The day was dry and calm, in contrast to the previous weeks of wet and windy weather! We were very fortunate. Students were accompanied by Mr Williams & Mrs Ryan.
The purpose of the visit was to experience sampling and data collection techniques and to generate ideas for A Level Geography coursework. We also looked at the effectiveness of the sea defences to the East and West of Reculver Towers in the light of the coastal management plan for this stretch of the Kent Coast.
