  • ST SIMON STOCK STUDENTS ACHIEVE EXCEPTIONAL GCSE RESULTS FOR 5TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR

    Thu 17 Aug 2017

    Headline information:

    • St Simon Stock Catholic School has achieved a fifth consecutive year of exceptionally high-scoring GCSE results with 74% of students attaining grades 9-4 (A*-C) in English and Mathematics.
    • We are delighted that in English and Mathematics, an average of more than four out of every five students achieved grades 4 (old grade C) or higher.
    • In this phenomenally successful year, our students achieved a total of 335 top grades (9-7 or A*A grades equivalent), which was more than one in five of all the grades that were awarded.

    Students:

    • 29 students achieved an average of grade A or higher across all their subjects, including Temi Awogboro, Freya Bailes, Lois Buco, Riwin Frederick, Sergio Niblett-Morales, Joseph Nixon, Libbie Raines and Daniel Smith
    • A considerable number of students achieved an average of more than one grade higher than expected across all of their subjects, but the following five students deserve special mention for achieving an average of two grades or more above their expectations – Elinor Burt, Niamh and Olivia Jestin, Toby Lonergan and Patrick Mariayajohnson

    Comment by Brendan Wall (Principal):

    • I am delighted for our students. These superb results show what can be achieved when hard-working, ambitious students work closely with excellent teachers, committed support staff, and their supportive parents who share our values and aspirations.
    • We have a strong ‘can-do’ culture at St Simon Stock; this year’s outcomes provide clear evidence of the exceptional progress that students can make through hard work, determination and having a growth mind set.
    • I am especially pleased because our excellent GCSE results, coupled with our outstanding A Level results, have now been sustained over several years; our students’ achieve highly because their progress is planned over a seven year journey, in which they consolidate and build upon their knowledge and skills as they move from one stage to the next.

A Level Press Release: August 2017

We are pleased to announce yet another impressive year of A Level results at St Simon Stock Catholic School with a pass rate of 97%. An average of one in five entries achieved grades A* to A with nearly half achieving grades A* to B. Two out of every three students achieved three A Levels with nine out of ten gaining two or more A Levels. The average grade for vocational courses was a Distinction Plus.

Early indicators show that our students have once again made outstanding progress from their 2015 GCSE starting-points, bettering even the exceptional achievements of last year’s cohort. These indicators suggest that our overall value added score will be well above the national average for both Academic and Vocational A Levels.

Of particular note are the achievements of Aaron Clarke, Holly Dowd, Alex Delvalle, Tom Grogan, James Kemp, Nathan Tuckwell, Bethany Darcey, Jonathan Hart, Ella Hibbs-Newman, Arthur King, Lewis Playfoot and Chloe Noyelle, all of whom scored two A grades and a B grade, or better.

Arthur King achieved A* grades in RE and History as well as A grades in Psychology and AS English Literature, and he now goes on to study History at Warwick University. Alex Delvalle achieved A* grades in Economics and Biology as well as A grades in Geography and AS Business Studies. Alex will study Economics at the London School of Economics. Bethany Darcey achieved an A* grade in Film Studies, an A grade in Theatre Studies and a B grade in English and now goes on to study Performance Arts at RCSSD. Lewis Playfoot achieved a Distinction Star in ICT as well as an A grade in A Level Mathematics and a B grade in Applied IT and now goes on to study Computing and Information Technology at the University of Surrey.

Ben Williams, Director of 6th Form, commented:

‘We are so pleased with these results, achieved after two years of hard work by our students. In most instances, these results were achieved in new, more demanding courses which increased the pressures on the students during their two years of study. Well done to all.’

    Brendan Wall, Principal, commented:

‘I am delighted at these set of results for our young people who have worked extremely hard and achieved at the highest level. Many of them will proceed now to the universities, apprenticeships and jobs of their choice. We wish them every success for the future.
